Fast-approaching is the Gate 5 Industrial Art Festival in Weirton on Saturday, Oct. 20. One family-friendly booth you won’t want to miss at this year’s festival is EscapeWorks. The only local escape room in our area, EscapeWorks is producing a fun, interactive puzzle hunt for festival goers entitled The Gr8 Gate 5 Puzzle Hunt.
“The October Puzzle Hunt will be fun for all members of a family, with a couple of puzzles specifically designed to be solvable by the little ones,” said Mike Whalen, EscapeWorks owner.
Teams should go to the EscapeWorks booth, open at 11 a.m., and pick up a free treasure map. The map will indicate the locations of puzzles in the area. Expect challenging, fun puzzles built into the Weirton landscape. The puzzles will range from the library to the Weirton museum on Main Street. It’s all walkable!
Whalen explained it’s not a race until the end, so enjoy the festivities, take your time and solve the puzzles in any order. Just have your puzzle solutions by 3 p.m. “At that time, we’ll announce the final clue that tells you what to do with those puzzle solutions,” said Whalen.
First three teams to follow the instructions will win a prize!
Then stick around for the live music including a full-costume KISS cover band! The Gate 5 Industrial Art Festival is a free community event with no admission charge and is sponsored by the Renaissance Weirton Corporation, a non profit entity working to help celebrate Weirton’s industrial roots.
Find the festival vendors, with an emphasis on metal-working, near Gate 5 on Main Street, opening at 11 a.m. Enjoy arts and crafts vendors until 5:30 p.m. and concerts that will follow, ending at 8:30 p.m.
The official start of the festival will be at 8 a.m. when the Tin Man 5K Run/Walk begins at the Weirton Event Center.
The Mary H. Weir Public Library will be offering free children’s activities from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
