Fun Awaits at Tappan Lake This Weekend!

Fun awaits at Tappan Lake this weekend! 

Kick start your weekend on Friday, Aug. 3 with a Morning History Hike from 9-10 a.m. to discover the history of Tappan Lake and the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District - meet at the Beach Trail. The Nature Center will be open Friday too from 3-5 p.m. where your children can find out what Ohio looked like in pre-historic times.

If you like an early start to your Saturday, plan on observing wildlife at the Nature Center from 8-9 a.m. at the "Mornings are for the Birds" event. Free coffee, tea and pastries should make the morning easy as you learn about the bird of the week!

Yoga at the Beach is Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9-10 a.m. instructed by Twin City Yoga with all donations given to the Harrison County Cancer Crusaders. No sign up required!

Explorers of Nature for kids ages 4-15 will be discovering nature through Campfire Adventures, Saturday 10 a.m.-noon. This week learn how to safely build a campfire then make yummy snacks to share! Pre-registration is required for this class at www.AtwoodLakeOhio.org. $5 per participant. Meet at the Nature Center. Attending three Explorers of Nature programs during the season will earn your child a limited-edition prize.

Don't miss the Fossil Dig Saturday at 1-2 p.m. with the naturalist on Cabin Hill. Look for the event sign to park. If you missed Friday's Morning History Hike, then head out to the Flashback History Kayak Tour at Tappan Lake Saturday from 3-5 p.m. You will explore the lake by kayak with the park naturalist and learn about the history of Tappan Lake. Bring your own equipment or borrow theirs. Boat, paddle, life jacket provided. Boat capacity limits apply. Waivers are required for all participants. Meet at the beach. $25 per participant includes gate fee, instruction and equipment! Seasonal campers can receive a $10 discount by entering the code KAYAKSEASONAL when purchasing tickets. Pre-registration is required by visiting www.tappanlakeohio.org. Must be 12 years old!

The evening is full of fun at Tappan Lake Park Saturday, Aug. 4 with DJ InTunes and the mini Relay for Life at 7-10 p.m. Show up at the basketball courts for music and Relay activities. Glow sticks and Luminaria for Light Up the Beach will be sold to honor the memory of loved ones who battled against cancer. All donations will go to the American Cancer Society. Pick up forms to purchase Luminaria at Registration prior to the event. Each Luminaria costs $10. The American Cancer Society Light Up the Beach starts at 9 p.m. Join the walk from the basketball courts to the beach for a special ceremony remembering those who have survived or has been lost to cancer and look to the hope of one day finding a cure.
